PURPOSE: To provide a quality education at a reasonable cost to children of Christian missionaries, Kenyan nationals, and expatriates.

SCHOOL: WNS is operated by the Network of International Christian Schools (NICS), and offers a Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 North American education in a Christian environment for families in the Nairobi area. Founded in 1996, the school is a accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), and with the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA)

CHRISTIAN EMPHASIS: WNS is operated in a Christian environment, with teachers instructing from a Biblical worldview. Religious instruction is incorporated into the curriculum, and morality, values and ethics (honesty, integrity, compassion, justice, etc.) are taught. Students attend age appropriate chapels each week. The school is open to non- Christian students but with the clear understanding of expected standards of conduct and behavior.

STUDENTS: Students range in age from 4 through 18: Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. The school's intent is to have a widely diverse student body with a strong mix of cultures and races. The enrollment last year was approximately 240 students coming from 19 countries. Approximately 30% are American, 40% Kenyan 15% Korea with the remaining 15% coming from Australia, Britain, Canada, Ethiopia, Germany, Holland, Honduras, Japan, Korea, Russia, Rwanda, South Africa and Sudan.

FACULTY: There are over 50 full-time and part-time staff members. The majority comes from the United States, but others are from Australia and Kenya. The teaching staff has been trained and certified, meeting the criteria established by the Ministries of Education and other institution in their home countries. Many come with advanced degrees.

CURRICULUM: WNS uses a North American curriculum and standardized testing is administered to all grades each year. WNS is committed to meeting individual needs of students, subject to the availability of staff and facilities. English as a Second Language (ESL), Special Education (SPED) and remedial programs are provided for students as necessary.

CORE SUBJECTS: The integrated Language Arts program develops reading, writing, grammar, speaking, listening, spelling and critical thinking skills. Math is taught using manipulative techniques and focuses on problem solving. WNS offers systematic Bible instruction, with character development as the desired outcome. Teachers seek to make Biblical truth relevant to the children's lives. WNS has developed its own curriculum in Social Studies based on the international nature of the school and the experiences of the students as residents in Kenya. Science is a discovery-based program.

SPECIAL SUBJECTS: WNS has specialized staff in the areas of Music, Physical Education, Art, Life Skills, Community Development, Computers, and After School Sports. Band is offered to students in grades 4 through 12. Two highlights of the music department are the Christmas and Easter choral and band programs.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT: WNS is family friendly. Parents are a valuable asset to the WNS program, participating in the Directors Advisory Council (DAC), The Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF), Moms prayer groups, the sports program, and many other areas of the school.

SCHOOL CALENDAR: The 180 day school year is divided into two semesters, each containing two quarters. School opens in early August and continues through the end of May. The daily schedule is 8:20 am to 3:25 pm, Monday through Friday.

CLASS LOAD: The desired class load ranges from 10:1 pupils/teacher ratio in Pre-Kindergarten, 15:1 for Kindergarten and 25:1 in Grades 1-12.

LOCATION: WNS is located in Karen, a suburb of Nairobi. By road, travel North West away from the city center on Ngong Road, 4.7 km past Dagoretti Roundabout, turning right into Miotoni Road. Proceed 1 Km on Miotoni Road and turn right into Miotoni Lane. West Nairobi School is just past the first corner.
